TRTF Announces 2024-2025 Grant and Scholarship Recipients!

The Texas Retired Teachers Foundation is pleased to announce its Classroom Assistance Grant and First-Year Teacher Scholarship recipients for 2024-2025!

TRTF will award 31 $1,000 grants to Texas teachers who, on a daily basis, demonstrate commitment to public education and Texas students through the creation of programs, events, or other learning platforms. Learn about the 31 grant recipients HERE.

TRTF will award 35 $1,000 scholarships to first-year educators to assist with purchasing materials for their first-year classrooms. Learn more about the 35 scholarship recipients HERE.

TRTF Willowbrook Mall Walk

Sheila Wolf, chair of the Cy-Fare Health committee and former president of Cy-Fare, partnered with TRTF Liaison Rhonda Schilling and organized a walk on September 26, 2023, at Willowbrook Mall. The members who participated in the walk made donations to TRTF. Other members of Cy-Fare did donate money although they did not participate in the walk. The total amount donated to TRTF from the walk totaled $320.00.

TRTF Welcomes Two New Board Members!

In June 2023, the TRTF Board of Trustees elected Nancy Byler from District 15 and David Olivas from District 19 to the board. Nancy and David officially began their first three-year term on July 1, 2023. 

David is a member of the Ysleta Retired School Employees Association. He worked as an elementary school teacher and school administrator for thirty-six years in the Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, Texas and retired eight years ago as a middle school assistant principal. During his years with YRSEA, David has served on the Children’s Books Project, the Scholarship Committee and on the Telephone Committee during the pandemic. As a TRTF Trustee, David is on the “A Helping Hand” Committee, First-Year Teacher Scholarship Committee, as well as the Liaison Support Committee.

Nancy is the President of Brown County Retired School Employees. She has held many positions at the state level of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), including first Vice-President, and President. She currently is serving as Chair of the TRS Retiree Advisory Board, as well. As a TRTF Trustee, Nancy is on the First-Year Teacher Scholarship Committee, as well as the Fundraising Committee.

Grant and Scholarship Applications are Now Available for the 2023-2024 Year!

Classroom Assistance Grant and Beginning Teacher Scholarship applications are now available for download and submission. 

Thirty $750 grants will be awarded to public-school educators in Texas, and 20 $750 scholarships will be awarded to beginning teachers. To learn more about each program, please visit our “Initiatives” page.

The deadline to apply to either program is Friday, January 27, 2023, at 5 p.m.

Please come to the TRTF Silent Auction at convention in Dallas! There will be a wide variety of items to bid on that you can get a sneak peek of HERE. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. on April 12 with a cash bar option while you browse items. Thank you to everyone who has donated auction items and helped make this event a success. All funds raised will continue to support TRTF’s mission of supporting retired and active Texas school personnel.

TRTF is looking forward to Convention 2022, in Dallas, Texas from April 11-13! Due to the hotel’s COVID-19 safety measures, we are asking that districts, locals, and individuals who normally bring a donation to the convention to honor or memorialize a loved one, friend, or colleague, consider making your donation online at www.trtf.org/donate no later than March 31, 2022. After making your donation, please send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "Convention Donation," indicating the amount of the donation, who the donation is from, who the donation is in honor or memory of, and for what fund the donation is designated to if any. All those who wish to donate in this fashion will be recognized in a PowerPoint presentation that plays during the Silent Auction on April 12.
